In early February 2024, the foundation stone was laid for the Gedeon Richter House of Hope in Bamako, which aims to give women escaping violence hope for a more fulfilling life by providing them with the right quality of gynecological care and education. The center will also provide psychological, legal and health counselling, as well as educational programs for women in need.
The "Gedeon Richter House of Hope" is implemented by the Hungary-based Close to Africa Foundation in cooperation with its local partner, the Sini Sanuman Foundation. Richter will provide a significant part of the construction costs and will also support the operation. The house is designed by a young team of Hungarian designers who have considerable local experience that ensures that the building is appropriately constructed for African weather conditions.
"Richter, as a responsible European company with its headquarters in Hungary, has long been looking for an opportunity to support a cause that would allow our company to step outside the boundaries of our usual social responsibility activities and help in areas and regions outside our traditional markets, this time in the developing world. We will provide support to women in need with the same commitment and enthusiasm in Africa as we have successfully done for decades in many of our markets. Our company supports and organizes numerous health and education initiatives in line with our mission to promote health and improve quality of life. Women's health promotion programs have always been a priority for us. In line with these objectives, we have also started a collaboration with the Close to Africa Foundation to provide key women's health care and knowledge to another group of women in need" – said Zsuzsa Beke, Head of Public Relations and Government Relations at Gedeon Richter.
